Zion Lutheran Church is located on the Highland Park-Deerfield border on seven acres of beautiful property. There is plenty of open space for recreation and spiritual renewal. The North Branch of the Chicago River aligns the East side of the property. We have a Memorial Garden, community garden and fire pit too!
A portion of the grounds at Zion, has been set aside as a Memorial Garden where ashes from cremation may be interred. Ashes may be committed to the Memorial Garden by internment in individual plots or by scattering loose ashes over the terraced plantings. The Garden also serves as an outdoor worship area.
The Memorial Garden is administered by the Memorial Garden Committee, elected by the Congregation at the annual meeting of the Church. "Memorial Garden Agreements" and "Rules and Regulations" are subject to review and approval by the Church Council. For more information and photos click here.
At the back of the property there's a large fire pit that we use when the weather is good. The fire pit is popular with the Boy Scout Troop that uses Zion's facilities but also with the whole congregation. Family and Confirmation Campouts have become one of Zion's favorite opportunities for Fellowship. For more information on past and upcoming Fellowship opportunities click here.
We have set aside some of our property for community garden space. There's not much to look at right now but as we head toward summer there will be abundant and luscious vegetable gardens growing.
