What is Faith in Action?

FIA logoFaith in Action is a nationwide network of interfaith volunteer caregiving program, originally sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The program brings together professionally trained volunteers of many faiths for caregiving to community members of all ages who may need help because of chronic health problems, lack of transportation, absence of social support or disabilities.

Working in ecumenical partnership, Zion Lutheran Church, Christ United Methodist and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Deerfield and Congregation B'nai Torah in Highland Park make up the Southeastern Lake County division of the Faith in Action program. They serve all communities in the region. Volunteer activities include:

In addition, volunteers are also trained to recognize when someone may need other social services. Volunteers can function as a liason to appropriate agencies and organizations in Lake County. Faith in Action fosters caring relationships between volunteers and their neighbors with long-term health needs to enhance independence and quality of life.

Zion Lutheran Church has been an active participant in Faith in Action for several years. Many of our members are trained volunteers who, on a regular basis, provide companionship for those in the community. We have congregation members who are served by the program as well.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or need help or know someone we could help, please call the Southeast Lake County Faith in Action office at 847-433-9411 and within 24 hours someone will call you back. For more information please visit us online: www.selcfia.org

Our turkeys will be ordered in advance and picked up on our delivery day, November 23.  If you wish to donate one in addition to the ones we order, bring it to the church and put it in the freezer.  If you wish to contribute cash, please write Trinidad on the envelope or memo portion of your check.  Thank You.

Have Warm Clothes?

Zion will be collecting warm clothing to donate to our sister congregation, La Trinidad, this Christmas. Start now by taking advantage of retail store's sales on last winter's styles. More details to follow as the days get shorter and colder.
